The Company
Denmark's largest transit company is in perpetual motion
As the name implies, Movia is all about keeping people moving. The company, specialized in mass-transit, was created trough a fusion of HUR, STS, and VT as a result of regional reforms.
Today, Movia is Eastern Denmarks transit company, and transports 220 million bus passengers each year, runs 590 bus routes, employs 4600 drivers and has nine local train routes. Combined, the company's offices in Copenhagen and Southern Zealand employ approximately 300 workers.
Focus Areas
HR changes focus from administration to development
”We're redefining our Human Resources role right now," says HR Director Thomas Damgaard. "We're shifting away from a primarily administrative function, and concentrating more on competency development. We want to ensure that we have the competencies we need in order to pursue the strategy we've envisioned for the company. That means we need to identify both the competency levels that we have now, and those we're missing with regards to what our job descriptions require.
"We also want to make our recruitment processes more effective and professional than they are today. This means improving the way we write job descriptions, advertise vacant jobs on our website, handle and respond to incoming applications, book interviews, and so on. Every year we run 50 to 60 recruitment projects, and it's a pretty demanding task to do that professionally using only manual routines.
"In order to live up to our goals we have made a strategic decision to digitalize our entire Human Resources function, so that the seven employees in our HR Department can spend more time on management than on administrative routines."
The search for a solution opened new opportunities
"We evaluated a number of systems before choosing MindKey™ HCM," remarks Thomas Damgaard. "Our efforts were rewarded with HR software that perfectly suits our needs, and we can continue to use our existing platform as we move into new areas."
To get off to a good start, Movia's first step was to create the data structure that it wants to use, transfer its information and then verify its accuracy. The next step was to train its HR employees to becone super-users.
"Because we're planning to make MindKey HCM the entrance point for all of our HR data, our HR personnel must be experts in using the tool," explains Thomas Damgaard. "Also because I believe that all strategy starts with documentation. This is where the reporting tools in MindKey HCM will be valuable.
"We have a big task ahead of us, but we are well on our way to the first goal, which is getting our data structure in place and activating the most important HR processes," says Thomas Damgaard in closing.
